Re: 2010--2011 YMCA
Swim Team
The 2010--2011 YMCA Swim Team is just around the corner. Tentative
plans call for team practices to officially begin Monday, September
20, 2010. Enclosed for your information is a copy of the
registration procedure for the swim team program. The registration
procedure is the same as it has been for the past few years.
Also enclosed is a description of the various team levels and fee
information. I am looking forward to working with both swimmers and
parents as we prepare for another successful YMCA season.

2010--2011
Registration Procedure The following procedure has been adopted regarding
registration for the 2010-2011 Swim Team season. Swim Team practice
is tentatively scheduled to start on Monday, September 20,
2011.
A. Participants in the 2009--2010 Swim Team will have first
priority for registration. Last year’s team members have
until August 27, 2010 to contact the YMCA and register. First
payment of fees is due as described on the sign up form. This
category also includes siblings of last year’s team members
who did not swim in 2009-2010.
B. Starting
August 28th, 2010, individuals who were NOT on last year’s
team, but who are current members of the YMCA or
reside within Edwardsville School District #7 will be given the
opportunity to register. If spaces are available, those who fall in
category A
may
still register.
C. Starting
September 4th, 2010 if spaces are still available, interested
participants who reside outside the Edwardsville School District
may register provided they purchase a membership as described in
the “Rules That Govern YMCA Swimming”.
Description of Swim Team Levels/ Fee information
Swim Team practice is tentatively scheduled to start on
Monday, September 20, 2010.
Level I
Level I swim team is geared mainly for swimmers ages 11 and
under or swimmers with limited Swim Team experience. These swimmers
should be familiar with the four competitive strokes and have had
past swim team experience or been involved with our Rookies
program. The main emphasis for this level is on refining
competitive swim skills and teaching skills not yet learned. At
this level, technique of competitive swimming skills is vital. Once
techniques are learned, the group will begin to concentrate on
training and racing.
Level I fees for season: $310.00 First payment of fees is due as described on the sign up
form.
Level II
Level II Swim Team is geared for swimmers ages 11--13 or
swimmers with several years of year round competitive experience.
Swimmers at this level should be able to perform all four strokes
according to USS Rules. The emphasis for this group will change as
the season progresses. Stroke technique will be the main emphasis
early in the season. Later in the season, this group will
concentrate on training and reaching goals set for competition.
Level II fees for season: $340.00 First payment of fees is due as described on the sign up
form.
Level
III
Level III Swim Team is mainly geared for swimmers ages 12--14
or swimmers with several years of year round competitive
experience. Swimmers older than 14 who would normally be in our
Senior Level but who cannot make the 2:30 start time will be
accommodated during this practice time. Swimmers at this level
should be able to perform all four strokes according to USS Rules.
The emphasis for this group will change as the season progresses.
Swimmers with YMCA Area cut times or Ozark Championships cut times
will fit into this group. Stroke technique will be the main
emphasis early in the season. Later in the season, this group will
concentrate on training and reaching goals set for competition.
Level III fees for
season: $365.00 First payment of fees is due as described on the sign up
form.
Senior
Level Senior Level is geared for swimmers ages 13--21 who have had
several years of year-round experience. These swimmers are those
who are seriously dedicated to reaching the highest levels of their
own potential.
Senior Level fees for season: $395.00
First payment of
fees is due as described on the sign up form.
There will be a $25.00 sibling discount per additional child after
the first child sign up for individual families.
Additional
Information
Families with outstanding dues must settle that debt with the Y
before they will be permitted to sign up for the 2010-2011
season.
Special arrangements for payment fees, for personal reasons,
may be made by contacting the YMCA’s President/CEO prior to
the date the fees are due.
Membership
Requirement:
YMCA District and National Policies state all team members
must be annual members of the local YMCA they compete
for to participate in meets. The YMCA must verify membership of
participants to the District prior to the first meet. Membership
scholarships are available for those in need. Contact the Executive
Director if you need additional information. If you purchase a bank
draft payment plan for your membership you must continue it for an
entire calendar year. Failure to do so
may be a violation of the membership rules as described in
“Rules that Govern YMCA Swimming”. Penalty for this
violation is that the swimmer will be deemed ineligible for the
following season and their results for the current season will be
voided.
Private lessons for Swim Team members
will be available with the YMCA Coaching Staff through
appointments. Email requests to Bob at coachbob@edwyswim.org.
Instruction from non Edwardsville YMCA staff must be cleared
through Coach Bob.
We will be having a new parents
informational meeting at the Y before the season starts. Keep an
eye on the website for details about this important
meeting!
Team Apparel
Team Suits, Team apparel, and
training equipment will be available for purchase on September 23rdthrough B&B sports. B&B will be at the pool
from 3:00-6:00p for suit try-ons and to take orders.
Halloween Invitational
The Breakers Swim Team will be
hosting its annual Halloween Invitational swim meet on October 15,
16, & 17. This event is one of 2 fund raisers we will be having
this season. The Parents Board is asking all parents to be prepared
to help in any way possible. THANKS!
